Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club
Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club
Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club was set up in 1992. As one of the few state schools in the UK to have a boat club we are fairly unique in being able to offer our students the opportunity to row in a comprehensive school club. Currently over 50 students learn to row and scull on the beautiful River Wye, which we are lucky enough to have flowing past our school.
Every year the crews will put a lot of time and effort into training and competing at local and national events, and we have had a high level of success in a number of rowing regattas and heads. Some students have gone on to represent Wales and GB, which is a huge accolade for them and the club.
There is typically a week long training camp held at Easter, as well as early morning, after school and weekend training sessions. Students can enjoy learning to row alongside developing other important life skills, that we believe helps them to go on to be successful in their future lives. Year 8 students who are interested in rowing are introduced to the sport with two week-long summer camps.
Our coaches are highly regarded and well qualified, helping our students obtain their goals both on and off the water. Our Head of Rowing, Tim Male, comes with an exceptional rowing pedigree as an Olympic rower who has also competed at multiple World Championships. He also has a strong inclusive track record of developing young rowers at all stages.

The Friends of Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club (Charity 1120581) is the charity behind the club that enables the school to provide this rowing opportunity for the students. They raise much needed funds to enable coaching and the purchasing of equipment necessary to train and compete.
